Riccardo Sinigaglia – Correnti Magnetiche

Correnti Magnetiche was an Italian interdisciplinary collective founded in Milan in 1985 by multimedia artist Mario Canali, Adriano Abbado, and electronic music composer Riccardo Sinigaglia. Along the years, they were joined by various collaborators like Flavia Alman, Sabine Reiff, Francesco Barilli, Giovanna Beltrami, Leonardo Aurelio, Marcello Campione or Elio Massarini, on video and computer graphics, as well as guest musicians like percussionist Gabin Dabiré, violinist Maurizio Dehò, or composer and Stormy Six member Tommaso Leddi. The pioneering work of Correnti Magnetiche was internationally acclaimed and the collective exhibited their work in Europe, Canada, U.S.A. and Japan, and won several prizes, like Prix Ars Electronica for Urbana in 1987 and Gates in 1988 (both included in this LP). During the 1990s, Correnti Magnetiche moved to interactive projects, virtual reality and 3D computer graphics.

♫ This LP collects various soundtracks composed between 1987 and 1989, specifically for Correnti Magnetiche projects, such as installations, animation films or videos. MIDI sounds predominate through a variety of mostly Yamaha computer, sampler and keyboards. Typical of Sinigaglia’s sound are the poetry and evocative quality of his music, the ancient music and Middle East touches, and the smooth blending of improvised, written and sequencer parts. A number of guest musicians on acoustic instruments (voice, violin, saxophone) expand the range of the music, like on the awesome #2 Incontro, where violinist Maurizio Dehò duets with Sinigaglia’s synthesizer, for a a gorgeous improvisation with exquisite Oriental touches.
